Charlestown Breachway ( State Fishing Access) Directions from Rt 1 east or west: Follow all signs carefully to Charlestown Beach/Breachway. After exiting Rt 1, cross road at 1st stop sign, go to end of road, take left onto Matunuck Shoolhouse Rd. Take right (at corner with plaza) on to Charlestown Beach Rd. (Sometimes the signs get torn down). Continue down Charlestown Beach Rd, go over the little bridge and then on the dirt road to the Breachway. The launching ramp and a sandy beach are at the far north end of the site. There are strong currents in the breachway during tidal ebb and flood, be careful because if drawn into the ocean, heavy waves and ebbing tidal action make the breachway entrance very dangereous. Even though this site is a state Fishing Access, a State beach fee ($7 for RI resident) is charged for parking starting in Spring, when a lifeguard is on duty, to Labor day. required in season. In season portable toilets are available, otherwise some shrubs provide for limited privacy.
